CIRCUMNAVIGATION JOURNEY / DISCOSSAURO

To travel you just have to exist. (...)

Life is what we make of it. The journeys are travellers. What we see is not what we see, but what we are.

Fernando Pessoa (in Livro do Desassossego)

In our travels, I think there is always the desire (conscious or unconscious) to store places, moments, situations in our memory that somehow touch us emotionally ... sooner or later these memories/emotions come to the fore.

In my travels my souvenirs are of vinyl records! More than in a photo, more than writing, it is in the [recorded] music that I find the identity of the places I pass through ... to later reproduce through the needle that passes through the grooves in a clockwise spiral. It is through this warm sound, characteristic of analogue recording that I try to tell stories that only vinyl has recorded on its surface.

For the 3rd edition of the DeVIR Meetings, I propose a circumnavigation journey that starts in the Algarve, throughout Europe on the way to Asia, crossing the Pacific to the Americas, sailing from Brazil to the PALOP, walking from Black Africa to the Mediterranean, recovering the Arab heritage of the Maghreb back to the Algarve

Through music we can access territories where we have never been, because through the sound waves we can access the musicians and inhabitants of these distant places and the identities that characterize them. Starting [always] with us, we can find in the reflection of these identities, answers to (re)find our own.
