Displacement
Mithkal Alzghair, Syria
contemporary dance
My research in this creation is centered on the patrimony of the Syrian culture traditions, physicalitys, transe, dynamic and repetitions. I try to understand the sources from which comes their traditional dances, the process of impregnation and contagion they are built, taking in consideration the social and political reality that has contributed on the creation of this heritage: the military heritage, the dictatur heritage, the heritage of authoritarian regimes, the revolution, the war and the displacement.
The necessity of this creation is related to that what I see today on the question of displacement and migration, violence, murders, massacres, conflicts and revolutions in Middle East. My objective is to define the identity of the Syrian body, the patrimony recognized, lived, built, and to understand how these events that shake our area, began writing a new heritage linked to the poltical, social and religious condition. I aim to identify the identity of the Syrian Body, of the acknowledged heritage and the lived and constructed one, in regard of the political, social and religious conditions that we are currently living. What is the identity of a society formed under domination and colonial dictatorship? Is the one of who lived the war and migration is different? Where is the space of freedom for these bodies? What are the constraints and the ideologies that are incorporated in us and how to face them?
So, Displacement is a research on what I inherited and also to participate in the reconstruction of a heritage that is currently in progress.
